Temple Embroideries

Whilst most temple embroideries were for general use, several pieces in the collection were for use at specific events. Funerals demanded the inclusion of blue. Others were to celebrate the birthday of elderly people and showing relatives and friends bringing their good wishes and gifts. Very special cloths were those used for the birthday of an old man, who had 5 generations of male descendents alive, including himself.

Since cloths like these were seldom used; most families would not invest in the purchase of such cloths and rent them for the occasion from the paper shops. These dealt with all aspects of festivals and funerals and were knowledgeable on the subject.
